What is Fashion Drawing?
Fashion Designing starts with Fashion Illustration. That is to say, these drawings are the templates for fashion designers. It is the first step where thoughts come to life. A flat sketch is the basic silhouette of a garment. Fashion drawing can also be with 3-dimensions, which we call CAD. Fashion illustration is the more detailed form of a garment that includes colours and fabric draping.
What is Croquis in Fashion Design?
Since Creating fashion croquis is the first step of fashion drawing. A croquis is quick sketching of an outline of a fashion figure. This helps in the further drawing of fashion attire.
How to Draw Fashion Figures?
A fashion figure’s proportions are not the same as the body proportions of a human. It follows some industry standards of nine head length to elongate the fashion figure and showcase the design in detail particularly for dresses and skirts.
Process of a Fashion Drawing:
Begin with a straight line:
Draw a vertical straight line on the centre of a paper because this line acts as the centre of balance for your fashion figure which covers from head to toe.
Create 9 sections:
Now separate the paper into 9 equal sections with horizontal lines. And these 9 sections include – the head, bust, waist, hips, thighs, ankles and feet.
Draw a square:
Draw a square in the middle of the balance line to draw the pelvis area. To create different poses, this can be angled in different directions.
Draw torso & shoulders:
Draw two lines upward from the pelvis square to draw the torso and shoulders. The lines are again drawn inwards and outwards to draw the waist. The shoulders can be of the same size as pelvis square but can be angled to create a pose.
Drawing the head:
Draw the circle for the head according to the proportion of the body. And also draw the neck with 1/3rd of the shoulder width and half the length of the work.
Drawing the legs:
Now it’s time to draw legs. The length of the legs should be four times that of the head. The legs are portioned into two sections – thighs and calves. Make sure that the top of the thighs must spam the same length as the head and taper the line below to the knee. And then again to the ankle, make sure the size is 1/4th size of the head.
Drawing the arms:
Draw the arms with tampered lines to the elbow and then to the wrist. You can position the arms alongside the body or pose on the hips and give a finish to the hands and fingers.
Aligning with feet and head:
Certainly, the length of the feet must be approximately the length of the head.
Now that your fashion figure is ready. You can start your fashion design upon it. Illustrate your design by shading the design to show the movement of the garment.
