PREP YOUR FACE
Cleanser
Before you apply makeup, clean your face. You should wash your face and remove any excess oils or dirt. Use a gentle cleanser to wash your face with warm water and pat dry with a towel. If you are planning for a night party and have makeup on from the day, make sure you remove the makeup with makeup remover before you wash your face.
Moisturiser
Moisturising your face is important to apply before makeup as it fixes the natural oils and keeps your face from drying out. Use a good moisturizer that suits your skin type. Apply a moisturizer to your face and blend it in.
Primer
Apply primer to help your makeup last longer. If you are going to be at a party where there will be a lot of dancing, a primer will help you to avoid continually reapplying your makeup.
Apply a few small dots of primer all over the face and then blend it in. Don’t apply too much and make sure you let your moisturizer dry before you apply primer. And after your primer application, let it sit for a few minutes before you proceed further.
Foundation
Apply the foundation and blend it into your skin after your primer has dried. Pick a foundation that fits your skin type and colour. If you aren’t sure, first test it on your jawline, look at your skin in the light and make sure the colour blends in.
To adequately blend your foundation, start by applying it to the centre points of your face – your forehead, nose, cheeks and chin and then blend it outwards.
Concealer
Conceal dark circles and spots using a concealer. Dab it over the blemish areas and blend it in softly. Apply it underneath your lower eyelid and blend it in just a little to highlight your eyes. This is to look natural, so blend in your concealer until you have a lighter area.
Setting Powder
Set your makeup with powder as it helps your makeup keep your face from looking extra oily. Dip a powder brush into loose powder, gently swipe the powder across your face and blend it in by making small swirls. Give it a finish using downward strokes just to keep down the tiny hairs on your face from being unnaturally in a weird direction.
Bronzer
Apply a bronzer one to two shades darker than your skin colour, to add a bit of colour to your face. Use a brush and create a three, starting at your forehead, moving to your cheeks and then ending at your chin. Make sure that the bronze is along your hairline, below your cheekbone and just below your jawline. Blend it in with your brush.
EYE MAKEUP
Colour
There are so many different colour combinations you can choose from. Choose your colours based on – if you are going to a more formal event, stick to browns and greys or going to a fun event, choose to use a shimmery eyeshadow or if you aren’t sure, try out some different shades before your party.
Eyeshadow
Apply a light shade of eyeshadow to your upper eyelid and blend it. Then, apply a shimmery eyeshadow to the inner corners of your eyes for an extra highlight. Then, blend a darker shade- make sure that the colour is to be one or two shades darker than your eyelid colour.
Eyeliner
Highlight your eyes with either a liquid or pencil eyeliner on your eyelids. Draw a thin line of eyeliner on top of your eyelid above your lash line. To create more drama, you can create a wing or cat eye with your eyeliner.
Mascara
As a final touch to your eye, choose a mascara that suits your hair colour. Starting at the base of your top lashes, underneath them wiggle the mascara brush through your lashes. After you have one coat, apply one or two more coats until you get the desired colour.
FINAL TOUCHES
Blush
Blush helps in highlighting your cheekbones and prevents your face from looking washed out. Swipe on blush with a blush brush over the apple of your cheeks and blend it in until you get the desired colour.
Lipstick
Moisturise your lips with a lip balm, line them with a lip liner and then apply a bold colour lipstick because you are going to a party. Start from the centre of your top lip and swipe outwards, but make sure to stay inside your lips. Next, apply to your bottom lip and rub lips together to coat evenly.
Setting Spray
After you have applied all your makeup, add a setting spray to your face that makes your makeup last longer. Hold the spray away from your face and spray a light layer and then allow it to dry.
